Back in 2014 we went to RMA Sandhurst for my son's Commissioning Parade, marking the beginning of his service as a cavalry officer in the Army Reserve.
The experience Will gained with his regiment thereafter - very diverse, very worthwhile - helped him decide on a career in the Regular Army, and on Friday we returned to Sandhurst to see him take part in The Sovereign's Parade, the culmination of a year's demanding training but one which has seen him thrive.
So Junior Under Officer Howlett, inspected by Prince William, becomes a second lieutenant in the King's Royal Hussars and for him, as well as for his proud parents, the next chapter begins.
Congratulations to Will, you and his father. Two of my sons serve in the US military--one long enough to be nearing retirement after almost 20 years; the other not far behind (don't I feel old). So I am familiar with your sense of pride for a job well done, especially considering the sacrifices that duty often requires. Wishing Will all the best as he serves the King's Royal Hussars.

Congratulations to Will and to his proud parents. It is an honour to see those photos of such a memorable day in Will's life and yours. The training is not something everyone can get through. Thank you for sharing them with us. I'll take this opportunity to wish you and your family a happy Christmas .. and, as always, thankyou for your inspiring writing.
