Callmemadam

Oh, I love those!

Cornflower

Not too obviously Christmas-y!

Rebecca

I'm a firm believer in "better late (and handmade) than never (or merely store-bought)" --last weekend I finished my husband's new fleece bathrobe, and this weekend I hope to finish my son's socks! Yours are lovely!

Fran

Well, you will be able to wear them all through Advent this year!

Cornflower

Thanks, Rebecca!

Cornflower

Fran, that is a very good point - thank you!

Toffeeapple

So pretty!

Cornflower

All credit to Tracy of Norah George for her prettily speckled wool.

Lovely as always Karen. Can I ask a technique question? Are you slipping stitches in the heel flap? Is that to protect that area from wear? I've seen that in some books but always wondered if it would distort the fabric.

Cornflower

Yes, Catherine, it is a slipped stitch heel, and is the one I use most often as it is comfortable (quite cushioning) and does seem to be hard-wearing. I don't think it distorts the fabric.
The Eye of Partridge heel is also a slipped stitch one, and produces an attractive diamond pattern. Instructions for both types are here: https://www.interweave.com/article/knitting/learn-something-new-heel-stitches/

Thank you, and for the link. I am relatively new to knitting socks (on tenth pair) but gaining confidence. It is quite addictive isn't it?

Cornflower

It certainly is!
