Here at Cornflower Towers we are without heating and hot water for two days while the boiler is being replaced. Front and back doors are open to the elements as work progresses, the radiators have been drained - so no residual heat, even - and the Aga is off. It is 4 degrees outside and likely not much warmer in, but we can layer on the knitwear and fill hot water bottles so we can't complain.
Purcell* does seem appropriate, though, and for those of us who like that sort of thing, here's the Nyman version.
*Edited to add: here's Alexandra Harris on the song; she goes on, "Cold sings as if his were the bass voice of the earth itself [...]".
Brrr. I remember an October day, where the temps were far more moderate than yours, perhaps 14-15C, when we were having all our windows replaced. I could not believe how cold the house became and how quickly once the windows were removed. Imagine the loss of the boiler over a few days is not much different. Good luck with the hot water bottles and layering. I survived my ordeal by periodically sitting in my car, running the heater.

I loved the music (both versions) as I sit by my woodburner watching dusk fall over the snow on the mountains, with a newly bought Fir Tree candle burning. So thank you Karen and
I do hope all is back to normal very very soon!

A good idea, Mary!

Thank you, Freda, the Aga is back on now (though not up to speed yet), and all being well the new boiler will be working sometime tomorrow. Fortunately, these thick old walls help keep in what heat there is.

Oh dear, you have my sympathy and I hope all is in working order very soon.
The music made me feel cold and I am in bed with my hottie!

I think Purcell achieved his aim!

You poor things!
I couldn't hear that clip but found another, working version. Brrr.

I wonder why it didn't work - anyway, there's an interesting mix of versions to be found.
