I posted a picture of this shawl in its infancy the other day and neglected to answer Swissrose when she asked about the pattern. In truth I wasn't sure that I was going to continue with it as I thought the yarn might be too variegated to show off the design to advantage, but in the end I decided to press on.
This is Suvi Simola's Soft Sunday, made in Fine Fish Yarns Zion (merino/silk/cashmere) 'Lost Penny'.
As to the string of Ss in the post title, I was inspired to cast on by Tracy of Thimble and Thread Make (Etsy shop here) who is hosting a Springtime Shawl Single Skein Knitalong, or SSSSkal, in her Ravelry group; my wrap is thus Suvi Simola's Soft Sunday Single Skein Springtime Shawl: Sx8.
I might have agreed with you at first - but it's turned out beautifully and the striping with the lace is very effective! Sometimes it takes an unconventional choice to show what is possible... and such gentle spring colours, too.
Thankyou!

I am usually not too keen on variegated yarns but I think this looks lovely.
I'm not usually very keen on knitting shawls either... I am never sure when I would wear one... do you wear it like a scarf?- but I do have a number of single skeins which need to be used and this pattern looks like a nice mix of simple knitting and some lace. I'll check it out!
