Toffeeapple

Higgs of the Boson fame?

I don't keep up with films or very much TV since there are all those books waiting to be read.

Cornflower

Yes, the very same. Quite a thing to rub shoulders with a Nobel Prize-winner in Waitrose!

Dark Puss

I have met at least one Nobel Laureate on top of the Jura; but that's not too surprising I guess. As you know I've known Peter for over fifty years now, but haven't seen him in person for about ten years I think. My mother is having lunch with him in the next week or so.

Cornflower

Kindest regards to your mother, DP.

I stood next to Ulrika Jonsson in Waitrose once, although I've never actually watched any of her TV programs & would have been more impressed with sharing orbits with Prof Higgs.

Cornflower

The only other 'famous' person I've seen in Waitrose is a member of the Scottish rugby team. I think Prof. Higgs is in another realm (albeit not one that's the focus of attention of teenage girls!)

Lucille

I can claim Michael Palin in a queue at Neal's Yard Dairy and very recently David Mellor having tea at the next table at The Goring.

Cornflower

And didn't you have a rather famous visitor at your house a little while ago?!

Mary

I am so impressed that you recognise Nobel prize-winners rathar than reality TV stars! I would recognise neither. I can also claim Michael Palin in a queue but would have to change tables if I found myself next to David Mellor as I can't abide the way - he - speaks - very slowly - on - Classic FM - as if he's - speaking - to a very - stupid - voter.

Cornflower

Yes!

Claire

I think my strangest encounter with 'names' was Ian McKellen and Monica Lewinsky, who were together. I found myself watching a lunar eclipse with them on a balcony at the National Theatre in London. You couldn't make it up.

Cornflower

You couldn't!

Ros

Matthew Pinsent was behind me in Kidlington Sainsbury's once. I don't remember what he was buying. I do remember he was huge.

Lucille

How could I have forgotten? Thank you for giving me the opportunity to trot out dear Mark Rylance again. Also whilst I'm at it, Sally Magnusson interviewed me for Tracing Your Roots on Radio 4 and Jonathan Ross sang 'Lucille' to me on his radio programme. Not a proud boast.

Cornflower

My goodness!

Cornflower

I bet!

Thinking about it, I now remember standing next to Joanna Lumley at the bread department of Harrods Food Hall in the early 1980's. I was browsing, looking for a foodie gift, but she appeared to be doing a normal shop.

We remember bumping into Rolf Harris in the dry cleaners, when he was at the height of his popularity for creating vast public paintings.

The whole family have met Prime Minister Theresa May a number of times over two decades as she has always been very active visiting playgroups, schools & local events. As her political profile increased, so did the number of security staff that accompanied her. On every occasion she was very pleasant and seemed interested in what was happening.

Grace

Found myself waiting behind Francis Ford Coppola at the cash desk at WH Smith's in Paris a number of years ago. I only discovered it was him when the assistant said 'Do you know who that was?'

Lucille

Apologies. Me again. Joanna Lumley once crossed a picket line I was on outside the publishing house I worked for. Neil Tennant was on that picket line with us.

Lucille

Alan Titchmarsh and Wayne Sleep, but not together.
(Will someone put the cloth back over that woman's cage please?)

Cornflower

No, no, Lucille, keep 'em coming!
