The fruit of 36 years of work by Richard Ormond - John Singer Sargent's great nephew - and others, Yale University Press' series John Singer Sargent: The Complete Paintings has reached its end with the publication of Volume IX.

This interview with Richard Ormond casts light on what must have been a fascinating if daunting project, and if you'd like to know more about the Sargent portrait above, Lady Agnew of Lochnaw, click here for a short video from Edinburgh's National Gallery of Scotland where the painting is part of the permanent collection.
Wasn't he a sublime artist? I could look at his work all day long. I am so tempted to buy at least one of the books...
Thank you for the links, they are very interesting.

You're welcome, Toffeeapple.
I'll be putting at least one of the volumes of portraits on my Christmas list, but it's hard to choose.

Nine volumes! As you say, hard to choose... I love this portrait. Sumptuous.

Hi Cornflower
Just catching up with things! I came to Edinburgh in September and spent most of two days at the National Gallery. I instantly fell for this painting and came home with all that paraphernalia that was for sale in the shop. So we have this picture on bags and fridge magnets exercise books post cards. She is all over our house at the moment ! And I loved the food in that restaurant. Well me and Ian Rankin anyway. He seems to spend some time there too.
