Chequebooks at the ready as this charming picture - Summer Afternoon (1923) by Stanley Cursiter - comes up for sale later this week. (There's more Cursiter here.)
Unlike the lady in the picture, I no longer have to rely on the hands of a willing family member when winding my wool as I have just acquired a splendid swift.
So mesmerizing in motion, and beautiful! Have I ever mentioned the time my neighbour caught sight of me winding wool from the back of a chair? Around and around, winding as I went...glimpsed quickly through a window...Dana thought I had taken up the harp! We laughed for days over that one.

If I had £40,000 or so to spare I might bid for the John Smellie...

I have a similar thing, but it is not as pretty as yours. They do help a lot don't they?

Your new winder is a thing of beauty. An upturned kitchen stool works ok, but may drop a few hints in the coming months.
