I had a few hours in London on Tuesday, long enough to visit two places I'd never been to before but especially wanted to see, and the first of these was Loop, the gourmet yarn shop in Islington.
I've spent enough time looking at Loop's online shop to be pretty sure that the bricks and mortar one would be vaut le voyage, and it is - chock full of gorgeous things that made choosing difficult, and manned by very friendly, helpful staff.
I swithered over Blue Sky Alpacas Metalico, Skein Merino Cashmere, Eden Cottage Titus 4 Ply, and was glad to see Brooklyn Tweed's Loft and Shelter, and Quince & Co.yarns 'in the flesh' at last; in the end I bought two skeins of Madelinetosh Sock, 'Stovepipe' on the left and 'Ink' on the right (the colours in the top picture are more accurate), but really I was spoilt for choice.
Ahhhh...This surely must mean there are another pair of socks soon to be in the making. Or perhaps a scarf?
From your knitting experiences Karen, do you find merino wool wears well on the feet? Is it as hard-wearing as alpaca socks?

How I envy you! I too spend many a happy hour in Loop's online shop and would love to see the real thing. It must be such a feast to see all those colours and to be able to feel the yarn. I like your choices very much, Madeleinetosh being a favourite of mine, and I think your colours look great - you do like your blues.

I shall tread carefully with both, I think, Helen, just in case!

I find it hard to get past the blues, but Loop is full of marvellous things, so maybe next time I shall branch out a bit.
