To remind me which handknits require hand washing and which can happily go into the machine: a sheet of A4 paper with holes punched down both sides, a snippet of yarn threaded through each hole, the name of the article to which the yarn pertains, and then the washing instructions.
I've slipped this into a polythene sleeve and put it with the laundry supplies.
How very organised - impressive!
I was only thinking of this the other day while looking at your lovely socks.

In awe

My system is more straightforward if a bit more brutal: if it doesn't survive the machine wash, it doesn't stay in my wardrobe.

Just got back from Amsterdam - a week-end visit and a wool-y treat at The Van Gogh Museum - a red wooden box, VG's very own (shoe-box size) and inside small balls of wool that Van Gogh had wound round, mixing wool colours, in to a single ball (and not too dissimilar to the little aide-memoir bows above - a 'preview' for himself to judge how colours would mix and how they would look together prior to placing oil on canvas - or indeed a variety of 'canvasses', he also used linen tea-cloths from time to time. Dear Cornflower I hope too that you have picked up my image of VG's Vase with Poppies and Cornflowers sent to you through a circuitous route - but it should be with you at some point (for us all to see)

You are quite terrifyingly organised. And productive. If only I could soak up just a drop or two of these qualities from your blog, my family's life would be transformed! :D
