Here is the Queen in her sitting room at Balmoral, and note the toy corgi in the foreground on the right.
Here is my corgi, Philip, who - unlike our real dogs - gets to sit on the settee. He is a souvenir of my visit to Britannia.
Although they are hard to make out in the top picture, on the royal desk are a number of stones which the Queen has picked up on her walks about the estate. As a keen (and choosy) stone-gatherer myself, I'm glad to know I'm in good company.
Couldn't help laughing when I saw this in the papers as we visited Crathie church on Sunday, narrowly missing the Queen - and wondered whether she was at home putting her feet up. So now we know! Wonderfully granny-ish, isn't it?

I'm rather shocked at the electric heater in the fireplace.

I am a stone-gatherer too and just yesterday arranged a small collection in my study after being in my new place for two months. They have their special place now!

It's very homely, and I approve of her Labradors on the mantelpiece.
I went to Crathie church once, years ago, when Prince Charles and a young Prince William were in the congregation. Security meant that my handbag was searched at the door, but not too thoroughly, and just as well because I happened to have a water pistol in it (long story). I had no intention of soaking a royal personage, but that might have taken some explaining had they found it!

Yes, I'd have thought a nice log fire when the weather called for it.

I'm in my study and can see about 40 stones (large and small) from where I'm sitting - mantelpiece, hearth, desk and sundry ledges. Perhaps a new career as a dry-stone waller awaits me!

Yes, I should have mentioned that, Eve. I wonder what he made of the knick-knacks.
