Over at Cornflower Books I've written about The Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction which is to be awarded at The Borders Book Festival this weekend. The winning novelist will receive a cheque for £25,000 and this beautiful glass sculpture by Colin Reid, commissioned - along with another piece for their private collection - by the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch.
Click on the download link at the top of this page to see an extensive photographic record of the making of the second commissioned piece - a fascinating, and at times unlikely-looking creative process which produces a stunning result.

I am going tomorrow to the Festival and have a ticket to hear Hilary Mantel. I'm very excited - I wonder if the prize will have been awarded by then?

I think I'd be trying to accidentally drop that on the way home.
