Rosie

Friday happiness; thank you for sharing such a striking bouquet.

Cornflower

You're welcome, Rosie. I wish I could transmit the scent of the roses!

Ann

The flowers are beautiful, thank you. I've just read that you're reading 'The Heir' and it got me thinking - was Mme. Alfred Carriere one of Vita's favourite roses?

Cornflower

I wonder! How interesting, Ann. I'm looking forward to Sarah Raven's book on Vita and the garden at Sissinghurst which was due in the autumn but now seems to have been postponed to early next year; perhaps that will give us the answer to your question.

Erika

I have a problem: my favorite rose shades are yellow and lavender--guaranteed to be feeble scrawny plants. Right now among ca 50 roses I have only one yellow, not for want of trying--a Rugosa whose name I have forgotten but it has survived 8 years of torrid summers and beastly winters.

I do have a tiny lavender-colors flowerbed to the west side of the house with Lavender, Tradescantia, Agerantum and Russian Sage. It is so satisfying. Yellow of course is no problem, away from roses. This month Day lilies and Begonias are filling this need.

Erika

Oh but how could I have forgotten our yellow Banksia rose--which is HUGE and now sprawls over the roof top of the single story part of the house!
