The most unusual piece of news to arrive in a Christmas card this year comes from an Oxford friend who says that in the course of recent excavations in preparation for extending his college library, items dug up include "52 skeletons (from before 1350), two 18th. century wine bottles more or less intact, and 3,000 wig curlers, marked with traces - often legible - from the newsprint in which they were wrapped".
Despite those curlers, did they habitually suffer a 'bad peruke day' due to the Oxford damp?
