I had a belated birthday lunch at Castle Terrace Restaurant today, and above are the canapés which include the tiniest pizzas in the world, a squid ink and salt cod 'purse', and the green blob which is actually a Caesar salad in liquid form encased in a covering whose composition I forget.
Here's what came with coffee: raspberry madeleines, pistachio macarons*, and more blobs - this time dark chocolate filled with meltingly soft salted caramel.
The lunch proper was quite wonderful, too, but the flavours of all the accompanying bits and bobs were so intense that each mouthful was a feast in itself.
*Macarons are synonymous with Ladurée, and if you have a moment, pop over to their lovely site and watch this charming short clip.
Sounds lovely. A belated Happy Birthday to you.
