"Wasn't Monteriggioni where we saw the cornflowers, Teresa? An entire carpet of them - oh, it was delightful. I find the cornflower the most delightful of flowers. Don't you, Miss Lavish?"
"I prefer something bolder: the reckless rose, the tempestuous tulip."
An exchange between Miss Catharine Allan, a lady of excellent taste, played by Fabia Drake (above), and Miss Eleanor Lavish, a novelist (Judi Dench), from A Room with a View - which I saw last night for the first time and so enjoyed.
(Pictures snapped from the television screen, hence the lack of clarity).
It is a wonderful film. I think that in the book, it was violets rather than cornflowers, though.

I love the movie....haven't read the book. I'm so visual that good movies, filmed on location do delight me!
AND I find that cornflowers are quite charming!
I did receive my copy of "Lady Audley's Secret" and am looking forward to reading that with all of you!

I wonder why they changed it. Must read the book ...

Can't beleive you've not seen the film before. It's a delight from beginning to end, one of the best Merchant Ivory films. I love it.

I saw the film first. It's one of my all-time favorites - the cast, the acting, the costumes, the scenery, the cinametography. The whole shebang! Love it! I was pleasantly surprised, when I read the book, to discover that the screenplay follows the book so well. If you haven't seen this film, hurry. You will find cornflowers even more endearing.
