I've now spoken to Typepad about comment notifications and they tell me there are two ways by which you can be sure of getting word that someone has replied to you. Firstly, you can set up a Typepad account which is free and at its simplest (i.e. without having a blog) means that you are registered, can have a profile picture of your choosing which will appear with your comments, and can opt for notification of replies to your comments by ticking the relevant box under Account/Notifications/Activity. Secondly, you can subscribe to comment feeds if you read the blogs by way of a feed reader. Failing the above, you have to check back manually.

I had not thought of a feed reader and will look into that. Thanks very much - it's hard to check back on all the topics that might have a new reply of interest.
I know that this is a personal blog and so it is really only Cornflower that is the official 'target' of replies to her original post (unlike a forum) but I would find it interesting to know of the replies in old topics, even if is is an infrequent event.

Just to report that the feed readers (Google Reader and Windows Live feeds) do show your new topics Cornflower but don't show replies to the topics.
