That four-poster I mentioned yesterday.
A fire will be laid on request.
Cricket ball key fob.
A telephone from another age (and there was also a square piano - out of tune!).
An enormous Edwardian bath with excellent shower.
That was our room at The Inn at Whitewell, and the hotel definitely gets a very high rating in 'The Cornflower Guide to Good Places to Stay'. Here's the view again, this time with the morning mist just rising:
I got it right! Please let me know how easy/challenging it is to get to and whether a car is essential. Glad to see you getting out of Edinburgh again (what about London next time ...)

I'd say a car is pretty essential, otherwise you'd have a long taxi ride from Preston (which must be the nearest station, I think) and no means of getting elsewhere within the Forest for walking, etc. once you were there.
We went down to St. Boswells, then over to Hawick and on to Langholm, then joined the M6 (for about an hour), then off through the lovely but slow country roads to the Inn, but I don't suppose you'd be coming from that direction, would you?

Lucky, lucky you...it's beautiful!

It is, Darlene. You'll just have to wend your way north on your next visit to Britain, and maybe stop there en route to Scotland!

i got it as soon as you said cricket ball key fob. It's my favourite place to stay- and the dogs love it too (and are welcome). You were in my neck of the woods.

That was my third visit to the area - which is so beautiful - but my first time at the Inn. I'll go back at the earliest opportunity! Although we didn't have our dogs with us, I was pleased to see that they welcome canine customers.
