You may remember this post in which we mused about the extra rooms we'd most like to have; well, the house pictured above would surely fit the bill for many of us. That is Stobhall in Perthshire, described as "the most romantic small castle in Scotland", 600 years old, and about to go on the market at an asking price of £2.3 million. For that you will get - apart from 10 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, drawing room, etc. - a library and muniments room, a music room, a 16th. century chapel, a folly, a rose garden, a topiary garden, a vegetable garden, woodland, pastures ... We can but dream (and look at the brief particulars).
On the subject of 16th. century Perthshire castles - in case you didn't see this post - Linda Gillard has a new novel just out and it features one, so if the real thing is beyond your means, there's always a fictitious version, reachable through the pages of a book.
Yes, Stobhall is very enticing but when I visited it the lack of a cat room was a big disappointment.

Ah well, perhaps there's a room that's just ripe for conversion!
