We've had a very full and very enjoyable cultural weekend here in Edinburgh, and I shall post on it soon, but while I catch my breath, here's a mystery object (a small souvenir I bought today) for you to identify. Any guesses as to what it is?
Mystery object number 2 is here.
I'm sure I've seen something like this... but when? where? Answer comes there none.

Is it for stirring porridge?

Is it a spurtle?

It's a spurtle for stirring porridge. I have one here in Switzerland which even has a thistle carved into the top. It works very well for porridge, but it would be nice if it would also clean the pan.....

It has a definite look of a spirtle to me.

Dibber.
Or a thing for making proddy rugs.

It's a spurtle. Old friend used to tease me about a mythical Spurtle Museum in Edinburgh but I think it could be a go-er.

I will have to look up "spurtle"! I've never heard of it!
My guess for the mystery object is a nostepinde?

It is indeed a spurtle. My husband received a spurtle award from grateful staff some years ago and it is used often in the morning for its purpose.
Mystery two is more problematic and I am going to plump for manuscripts of Robert Louis Stevenson to keep the scottish theme.

Looks like the spurtle we bought in the 1960's only cleaner!

There definitely should be a Spurtle Museum here - we must found one forthwith!
