"Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us. We need hours of aimless wandering or spates of time sitting on park benches, observing the mysterious world of ants and the canopy of treetops."
Maya Angelou
I found that passage
chez Neuroknitter (where you can always be sure of discovering a well-chosen quotation, along with great knitting and photography)
, and as I think Ms. Angelou is right
, I've posted it here. With a busy week ahead I don't have the luxury of "hours of aimless wandering", but I did nip into
the RBGE to "observe the canopy of treetops" for a minute and get a shot of one specimen -
Davidia involucrata, the handkerchief tree or dove tree - in full and fleeting glory.
If you were able to have one of those restorative days away from problems and responsibilities, how might you spend it? It's a pleasant thought to contemplate, anyway, if not always an easily accomplished reality.
