A friend remarked this morning on the lack of bunting in our kitchen, but never mind the decorations, what about the Royal Wedding food? Here, courtesy of the anglophile Raymond Blanc, is an excellent salad*, which, if served on a blue plate, will add the right colourful note to your celebratory table! You think I'm joking, and of course I am, but actually we are planning a wedding picnic tomorrow - not near the Abbey or the Palace, just in front of the television, so finger food it will be as I for one shall be glued to proceedings and enjoying every minute. No cynicism in this house as we wish Prince William and Catherine well and hope for a marvellous day for all.
(*Tomato Salad 'Maman Blanc' from Raymond Blanc's new book Kitchen Secrets. Made with Coeur de Boeuf or Marmande tomatoes, shallots and a garlicky, mustardy dressing which you pour over the tomatoes an hour before serving, this is simplicity itself but relies on precision - no short cuts on ingredients or method.)
We will be rising in the wee hours here to watch and celebrate here ( in Arkansas, USA) also! No room for cynics! We love William and Kate!

Great, Lila! It's a cheering prospect all round, and I don't understand the mean-spirited types who can't find a good word to say about tomorrow's events.

My parents are coming for a rare visit (to see the kids' piano recital Sat.) and we are ALL getting up at 3am to watch the live BBC America coverage. My beloved dh is getting tea, scones, and various other "British snack surprises" for our wedding-watching pleasure and breakfast. We wouldn't miss it. :)

I love the idea of your "British snack surprises", Susan. Have a great day, and all the best for the recital, too.

Glad to see you back and hope you're doing great. I haven't decided about 'getting up' - in that I don't go to bed til the wee hours of the morning anyway (3am the other day!). I have considered taking a nap (soon) and just staying up - but that won't work since things will be ongoing for hours. So, maybe I'll just go to be early for a change - then, see _if_ I can get up for 3am.
Susan in TX: Wouldn't that be 4am for you? You get an extra hour, lucky girl!

Good for you! I'm also anti-cynic and prepared to enjoy the whole thing.

Ooooops! Susan in TX: I was way off on time in the CST - The coverage began at 2am for you. I was up by 5:30 - early enough.

I had no problem getting up at 3am but I am feeling rather tired now. There has been so many grizzly images on our nightly news shows that it was so nice to look at something pleasant and to be able to enjoy a wedding. It will be back to reality tomorrow.
It was lovely. I thought the dress was great, it reminded me of Grace Kelly's dress. I had to smile at the image of one of the little bridesmaid standing on the balcony, she could hardly see over the railings, her headdress was crooked and she had her hands over her ears. The expression on her little face was priceless!!
