Anne

A friend has just passed this book over to me with great enthusiasm. She tells me it was the best book she read last year, (and that all her book group loved it), so with two good endorsements, I must make a start this weekend.

Cornflower

I hope you will enjoy it, Anne, as I remember it as being excellent!

Margaret Powling

That's a beautiful, beautiful photograph, Cornflower!

Cornflower

Thankyou, Margaret. It was taken on my phone - and in a rush - so a bit hit or miss, but it has come out alright.

marge

How funny - a friend sent me this book for Christmas as she knows I am a Derbyshire girl - many of my family still live near Eyam (pronounced eem), the famous plague village. I noticed it again last night, still unread, and made a note to open it today and make a start.

Cornflower

Coincidence, indeed, Marge.

Reader

There is an influence of A.E. Housman in some of Brooks' work. "Justify God's ways to man" in Year of Wonders, and also a quote in one of her Washington Post articles at http://www.thehopefund.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Arms_Boy.pdf

A Derbyshire girl and a Shropshire Lad.
