Dark Puss

I doubt if I can discuss what the "thinking woman" is thinking about either of these gentlemen; I suspect they are doing something more productive!

However Dark Puss did note the phrase "handsomely well-preserved 51-year-old". Does that mean those of us of a similar age have been pickled in attractive jars?

Alice (Cornflower fille)

I was under the impression that Monty Don was the thinking woman's Monty Don!

Cornflower

I wasn't aware of any Le Parfait about your person the last time I saw you, DP, but perhaps I missed something?

Cornflower

Quite so!

DamsonLily

I wholeheartedly agree! I am currently reading the Ivington Diaries, which leaves one in no doubt as to what a thoughtful, perceptive and intelligent person Monty Don is.

Sarah

I am not sure that either of them would thank Judith Woods for this (and her style of writing did have me grinding my teeth slightly). I have always thought of Monty as a thoughtful, perceptive and sensitive man and Kevin as bright, articulate with a somewhat penetrating manner.

I have dithered over whether to write this next bit, but i think we denigrate the intelligentsia too much in this country. I suspect the root of the quote lies in the intellectual and scholarly side of K.

Rebecca

I rather like the pair of them whether I am thinking or not.

Dark Puss

No you didn't miss anything, but many thanks indeed for your comment, I was looking for something like this recently!

Margaret Powling

Yes, I like the pair of 'em, too. I think Sarah has described them both accurately, I can't better her description.

Cornflower

Hear, hear!

Cornflower

I think you're absolutely right, Sarah - sadly so.

Jill

I don't think we are watching Grand Designs just for the houses, if we are honest! Kevin McCloud is quite a hunk...and his comments are frank and perceptive. I chuckled at the description of him as "a slightly aghast Greek chorus."

Rosie

Liked the article but don't get the 'thinking woman's Monty Don' at all. They both come across as intelligent, thoughtful and considerate men who are extremely good at their TV jobs. And, of course, two of very few examples of male 50ish gorgeousness. No idea what they are really like, I'm happy with my fantasies.

Oh dear, and I thought Monty Don was the thinking woman's Alan Titchmarsh!
