This is yarn and it was photographed in a 'garden' - well, strictly speaking 14,000 acres of Hebridean wilderness, but who would not use a location like that as a backdrop if they got the chance?
The yarn was an unexpected but greatly appreciated present from a friend. It is all alpaca and was bought at Spring Farm Alpacas (they don't appear to do mail order but are nonetheless a very interesting site - agistment caught my eye, though I think they are a bit too far, sadly!). Anyway, to business and what we have here is white suri 2 ply (100g), brown huacaya 2 ply (100g) and fawn huacaya dk (150g), all wonderfully soft. I don't have yardages but what would you suggest making with it? A lace shawl or scarf, perhaps; maybe a cowl? It deserves to be something special.
Beautiful and I'm going to say Cowl, because I have some fabulously soft wool and am currently scouring Ravelry for a nice pattern for mine....if you find one first Karen let me know x

Alpaca will be really warm so a hat and mitten set would be lovely or a gorgeous shawl for wrapping up in while you read on a cold evening.

Wendy is have a Pi shawl knitalong. It's Elizabeth Zimmerman's 100th birthday. Do you think you might have enough for a small shawl?

I am knitting socks with alpaca yarn for my mother who finds most wool too scratchy, yet often has very cold feet.

I used to do quite a lot of knitting, don't really get enough time these days. I think you are brave tackling a project in 2ply and because of that, I agree that a cowl would be nice as a special item.
I searched a couple of the sites I remembered and came up with a couple of 2ply options, hope these sites are of some use.
