... as we were the other day, I spotted these very pretty ones
in More Last-Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson, which is just out.
The pattern for the 'soft as a cloud cowls' (3 versions) is written for a cashmere yarn which looks to be about the same weight as my alpaca. They feature in the 'more-than-eight-hour-gifts' section, so at the rate I work that'll be about five years.
I tried to interest my daughters in the 'pointy elf hat' shown on the cover (sizes baby to large adult), but despite Alice's observation that wearing one would make Harriet look taller, neither was over-keen.
I jest, of course, and must say that there many other lovely items in the book which my girls and I would happily wear or use.
Oh that hat is too adorable!

The cowl will be so pretty in that brown.
I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of this book!

I have to admit that I don't really buy knitting books any more, since the onset of the internet and specifically Ravelry. I'd rather find a single pattern that I want and download it instantly, either for free or for a couple of pounds, than buy a whole book and find I only knit one or two things from it. I can't help wondering if the printed pattern book is a dying phenomenon.
