I've recently discovered the very friendly and (virtually) delicious 'Elevensestime' tweets on Twitter, so here's my contribution today, in real time and in pictures.
This is Banana Cake from The Thrifty Cookbook by Kate Colquhoun, the perfect use for a couple of over-ripe bananas. As the author says, "this is a failsafe sweet and sticky loaf cake made in a bowl with a fork and no sophistication whatsoever", and she's right! Harriet mixed up a batch last night, and I can see a repeat performance happening today as it's utterly fuss-free and very good.
It may look plain but it's actually very tasty, and for variation Kate Colquhoun suggests adding some chocolate chunks, or ground mixed spice, or cinnamon with chopped walnuts or pecans.
I'm off to have another slice with my coffee. Enjoy your elevenses, whatever you're having.
I just had a slice of lemon drizzle cake topped with buttercream icing.
If I had read this post ten mins earlier I might have been able to share a picture! :)

That sounds very good, Lorraine.

Home-made goat cheese on home-made rye (neither by me). Very delicious. Lunch actually.
Comment for your previous post: We loved Foyle's War. It seems British actors often do more than one thing.

I used to make banana bread successfully with wholemeal flour. Jane Grigson's Banana Tea Loaf is more luxurious (includes cherries) but just as easy. Just put everything in a bowl and mix it up. How thrifty we are, using up those brown bananas!
