Many of you will know far more about this than I do but I see that up-to-date people can now get a Nigella 'app' (tsk tsk) for their iPhone.
I am way behind the times here (as in most things) because my mobile phone is so old it's barely more sophisticated than two coconuts and a piece of string. But for those who embrace technology it seems that the phone can now give inspiration for meals, a shopping list and recipe information, even videos of how to do it! This won't replace our trusty cookbooks, but how often have you stood in the supermarket thinking "what shall we have for supper?", or holding some ingredient and wondering what new, interesting and tasty thing you might do with it; app-arently your phone can tell you.
If you've tried this sort of thing, please do tell us what you think of it.
How funny, my hubby just told me about that and the Jamie app yesterday. I think it would be a great idea sometimes when my brain is complete mush, but yes, it would never replace curling up with a cup of tea and a cookbook.

I don't have an iPhone (or indeed a phone that runs a reasonably open OS like Symbian or Android) but I do have one with good 3G connectivity and thus access to reasonable web browsing (and a contract that allows internet access at an affordable price!). That aspect is actually rather more useful than I would have thought at first, but I must admit I have never used it in a supermarket environment. It just isn't the way I would work! I do use the google map facility quite often, and very ocassionally I have used it to look at Cornflower's weblogs.

I just can't get on board with this. I love technology, but cooking is about reality, personality and virtuosity, not virtual-ity. IMHO of course!

I can live without it!
I get irritated in shops by people walking round talking into a phone saying, 'I'm at the soups now, what shall I get?' At least the iPhone alternative would be quiet.

I am pleased to say my local delicatessan refuses to serve anyone who is using their phone.

Obviously superior to the Co-op.
