Dr Who? I think you know that Dr Peter has been wearing Harris Tweed since 1975! These young upstarts are just reinventing the wheel; twas ever thus in the world of fashion, why I'll bet even corsets will be back shortly ;-))

We Yanks are stoked that the Who fans may revive 'The Real Thing'. I want to see more made so it can make its way across the pond and also have the industry continue,,forever.

This is why I love reading your blog! Books, cakes...and now Doctor Who-- what more could a girl ask for?

(I miss David Tennant though...)

Dark Puss

Rita, I know about stoking a boiler, but what does stoked mean in your context please?

Dark Puss

Easy, a custom corset from Metamorph!

rosie

But surely not Harris Tweed corsets?

Dark Puss

Rosie, Harris Tweed - probably not, but I made that as a tounge in cheek comment. Haute Couture corsetry is back in a big way (well a highly visible way) and here are some people using tweed in them:

Katie Mosa

And I've just found Ann MacCallum who says "Ann wants to specialise in Harris Tweed Corsets and will be developing the business in that direction." so it looks like the answer to your question is probably yes!

GeraniumCat

Wow, DP, those corsets!! as someone who has actually made corsets (albeit the Elizabethan variety, and therefore, stays) I am immensely impressed!

Dark Puss

Dear Geranium Cat, corsets of the modern variety are something of an interest of mine, I expect Cornflower might chose the word obsession! If you wish to see some more innovative work can I suggest a visit to Metamorph whose site features my wonderful photographer Morgana in model mode, and also the splendid Maya Hansen. Metamorph has an unusual fan-tied corset if you look hard enough.

Enjoy!

GeraniumCat

Belatedly, Dark Puss, double wow. Made me want to get out the sewing machine and whalebone again - not, I hasten to add, the real thing, but nylon or steel depending on the purpose, and you can, at a pinch, make an excellent busk for stiffening the front with a wooden school ruler. In an idle, unemployed moment, many years ago, I wondered if it would be possible to earn a living making beautiful corsets - what a pity I didn't try, it might have been fun!
