The baking goes on apace, here. I'm just about to mix up batch number five of Matt's terrific bread - we've had two all-white loaves and two which combined wholemeal flour, seeds and grains in different proportions. We've had it by itself (because it's so good it needs nothing besides), with butter (because, like A. A. Milne's King, Mr. C. does like a little bit of butter to his bread), with goats' cheese, with a rustic vegetable soup, and for breakfast, toasted.
Now I'm off to order another book on baking, though this one - you'll be glad to hear - has nothing to do with bread.
My second batch is in the oven and the house smells delicious, thanks for pointing this recipe our way!

Your bread looks so delicious and I'm aching to try it - and it's at least a fortnight before I'll have time to bake. Oh rats! But the A.A. Milne reference made me smile.

I have just taken mine out of the oven, tried a tiny bit before I call the others and it is delicious! I'll echo Darlene and say "thanks for pointing this recipe our way!" And it is so easy!

We use this bread all the time - just made it with fruits for Easter. It is also good with lots of grated lemon rind and fresh Rosemary. Olives work well, as does cheese. It gets to be a bit addictive to be sure. My DH makes it with his sourdough culture and now puts it into regular loaf pans - so much easier for sandwiches. He will cover with tin foil, or another inverted empty loaf tin. Happy bread baking!

Lovely to hear from you, Peg, and I must try your variations!

I tried this and it was spectacular! Am pushing my luck by 1. making two batches, 2. using 1/3 wholewheat, 3. adding more salt, and 4. hoping to bring it to a Gathering! Am hoping the mojo holds through!
