I adore moss- and it is particularly beautiful now, seeming so green and fresh after the recent snows. I always loved to find the one which resembles miniature fir trees- often found it in Lake District woods, but yours looks good enough to sit on!

Sporophytes! Awesome photos. We have no clay in our soil, so can grow no moss. I love to find it on hikes through the woods, especially when its fruiting bodies are about to burst.

I didn't know what they were called, so thankyou, Ruth!

Lindsay

Fine pictures, C: tomorrow, for balance, I expect something on rolling stones?

This makes me want to borrow my father's Nikon and take some pictures of the moss in the backyard -- if it's survived the snow... sigh... I did notice that the quince is a few days away from blooming.

Julie Fredericksen

If those are recent photos, I am GREEN with envy. All is white here.

Cornflower

Yes, Julie, just taken a couple of days ago!

Jenn

Lovely! I adore moss and was thus very charmed with Scotland when I visited several years back. I remember walking through a beautiful grove just outside of Callander and singing a silly little song about moss. A very welcome recollection as I sit in my tiny NYC apartment...surrounded by concrete :)
