I did something different! I took a break from all the usual activities and I got out the paints which were given to me for Christmas (and that was Christmas 2007!) and which I had never used, and I spent over an hour testing colours, mixing them, getting the hang of consistencies, and putting them on paper.
There certainly isn't a picture or even the idea of one to show, but being obviously productive wasn't the point. The aim was to be deaf to my inner critical voice, to ignore the usual prompts of the clock and to have fun, and I did!
Good on you Karen ! It sounds as if you enjoyed it - make sure that it is not another year before you pick up those paints.

Excellent, now adopt my suggestion of tossing a coin (rolling a die etc.) and doing something like this every day you get a "head" (or a six or whatever you think will give the right work/life balance).

Fabulous! And, a great idea from Dark Puss ... will you do it?

Hi there,
Three things,
1 Why are you NOT having a blizzzzzzzzzard in Edinburgh when we are covered in snow and in sub-zero temperature and you are further North than we are? I am waiting for my Sunday evening call from Edinburgh but he is eating his tea ... "Why so late ?" I jumped in , but he's been somewhere to watch a football match and somewhere else to play a computer game and the time has just gone.....
2 I just hate the concept of Work/life balance.....I shall have to ponder exactly why...something to do with the idea that life as one lives it is something that can be got hold of and ...what...made smaller? controlled? held in one's hand? measured?
3 There was an obituary of a lady in the Times yesterday who was really good at Botanical drawing ..it seemed an absorbing thing to do... have a read .... I'm afraid I can't remember her name but she had lived in Scotland and I had a good hard think about her and her life.....
