Thankyou for all the very kind comments on yesterday's hat. I ought to say I claim no skill at all where knitting is concerned and I am amazed when things turn out half-decent. Although I learned to knit as a child, apart from a tiny cardigan which I made for my first baby, I hadn't picked up the needles for ages until two years ago - and when I did I couldn't even remember how to cast on or purl and I had to consult a book. So I consider myself a novice who is gradually finding her way, and if I can do it then anyone can!
The internet is a marvellous resource, of course, as a showcase or source of yarn, patterns, and inspiring creativity and there's a deal of practical advice there, too. When I tackled my first pair of socks (what a thrill to finish them, and I wear them in my wellies all the time) I looked to Knitting Help for basic instruction. Youtube has some useful videos on other techniques, too: here's a lovely one (watch it with the sound on).
I am quite in awe of the work produced by so many supposedly amateur knitters/designers which I see on the blogs I visit, but they have made me try new things and I'd urge anyone who feels they'd like to have a go to do just that.
I'm still intent on re-organising the knitting links in the sidebar to add some excellent sites which aren't currently there; meanwhile, if you can recommend any good ones whether blogs, online shops, or other yarny places, please say.
