Kindly modelled for us by Harriet is the Berry hat from Fun and Funky Knitting, made on an impulse when I decided to abandon the scarf I'd started with this yarn. This was fun - and quick - and though the light is unforgiving so the photographs don't do it justice, it is very soft and there's a lovely sheen on the cherry red BFL/Silk (clearer in yesterday's post).
I've called this post an ABC of knitting as just one skein of Fyberspates Scrumptious DK and one ball of Rowan Kidsilk Haze have yielded an Airy Scarf, today's Berry hat and a pair of Cranford Mitts, (two of the three can be seen in their true glamour here!). The question is, what - beginning with D - can I make next?
One technical point, the hat is not made in the round but has to be seamed; having referred to illustrations in books when using mattress stitch in the past and not being terribly pleased with the result, I looked online for something better. I followed the instructions here and have managed a near-invisible seam - on the left below is the right side, while the wrong side is neat, too.
Gorgeous! You have made me think I must learn to knit quite a few times, but this one might seal the deal. It is so lovely. Also intimidating. Would I ever be able to do something like that? Eeek.

Your hat is lovely. I like the colors and design very much. Also, your mattress seam is very timely...Susan is having a contest re: mattress seams. Here is the link:

And very nice it looks on Harriet too.
Your knitting is very regular and professional looking - and that seam, well! Looks great.

Harriet makes a wonderful model, the hat looks beautiful on her. Gorgeous colour combination and how silky and lovely that yarn looks.

Wow - beautiful. Many thanks for the link to the Knitty seam instructions. I'm not a fan of mattress stitch so may well give this a go the next time I have a seam to sew.
