When I saw Claire Macdonald's recipe for Frozen Raspberries with Hot Chocolate Sauce in a newspaper at the weekend, I earmarked it to try a.s.a.p. Then a friend gave us a punnet of rasps from her garden, and despite our miserable weather they are tartly sweet and delicious, so there was our pudding.
I can't find an exact copy of the recipe but here's one that's pretty close - just omit the coffee.
I froze the berries in a single layer for an hour or two, then put them straight into bowls and poured the hot sauce over them. The contrast between the unctuous, warm, dark liquid and the sharp but yielding fruit is wonderful.
I must admit that in general (and possibly in absolute) I don't take to any combination of fruit and chocolate. I strongly suspect that I am very much in the minority here. I think my aversion is probably related to the high fat content of proper chocolate which tends to coat the palate in a way which renders my taste less suited to the acidity of the fruit. However I have no evidence to back up this hypothesis of the mechanism.

Delicious, my favourite combination! I would never have thought to freeeze the raspberries for a few hours first, but thinking about it, it makes sense. The warm chocolate and frozen raspberries is certainly an intoxicating combination. Thanks for the idea.
