Just to follow up on the comments in the previous post, I can thoroughly recommend Can Any Mother Help Me? which I read last year and wrote about here. It's a fascinating book.

Thanks for leading us to that, Cornflower ... I'm really looking forward to reading this book but the TBR pile just grows and grows ...
I loved belonging to a correspondence magazine so really empathize with the women who wrote for the CCC (the correspondence magazine mentioned in Can Any Mother Help Me?)
