I am ombrophilous: capable of withstanding heavy and continuous rain! That's just as well given today's weather forecast.
I didn't know there was a word I could apply to my rain-loving nature until Bloomsbury sent it to me as their "Word of the Day" last week. They'll also send you their Day in Literary History if you ask them to - I see today's is about the "New Yorker" which ties in with yesterday's post.
Whether wet or dry, have a good day!
Dark Puss is xerophilous as are most domesticated felines (with the exception of the cats from the city of Van in Turkey I think).

Although the endless days of grey, damp gloom depress me(although not to the point of SAD) I sometimes take delight in looking out at heavy rain and knowing I don't have to go out ... the larder/freezer/fridge are well stocked, I have a tumble dryer for the laundry and I can just sit and enjoy a good read ...

Can't wait to tell my daughter that this is what she is,ombrophilous!I'm afraid I am exactly the opposite ... need sun and bright light or have to deal with "sads."

Trying to figure out the pronunciation, I sounded it out. It became obvious that the root word is umbrella!

Thank you for a lovely word. I would have guessed that ombrophilous meant someone who likes to be in the shade, but I will not argue with the dictionary. :)
