Diversions in a basket at my feet, all set for idle moments: another scarf like this one, and a good book.
I'm only fifty or so pages into Flaubert's Parrot and because of numerous interruptions haven't got into my stride yet. So far, it has an uncollected, fragmentary feel, but I hear it shapes up well as it goes on, and with neat literary synchronicity is linking me back to Adam Thirlwell's Miss Herbert
which I read before Christmas.
The knitting is decidedly rhythmical, in contrast, and is progressing fast. The yarn is Posh Sophia 8-ply cashmere, and I have three skeins of it which should give a finished length of about 54".

Tomorrow is Alias Grace discussion day. How has this book fared with the Cornflower Critics? Will there be a clear male/female division of opinion? I can't wait to find out!
Dark Puss is working hard to finish "Alias Grace" in time for tomorrow's discussion!

I'll put up my opinion on Sunday as I'm away tomorrow. Also can't wait to see what everyone thinks.

Being more in the knitting camp rather than the book discussion group, I would most naturally ask....is that a 'cornflower' blue yarn? :-)

I saw the Scottish films "The Waterhorse" and "The Rocket Post" this week. I thought, being Scottish, you might like them. Also the Australian film "Noise", which I saw this week, is quite good. The last 2 I mention have no reviews on amazon.com. It's a shame these films get little publicity. Have you seen any of these films? What did you think?

Finished the book! Now where can I post my comments? I'm just off to my flute lesson (early this weekend) so I guess you won't get them 'till the afternoon. DP
