I promised cake to go with our Book Group discussions, and here it is.
As we're reading "All Passion Spent" what else could I make but a Passion fruit custard cake?
It's a pity you can't all pop in to have a piece, but you can find the recipe here and I urge you to give it a try because it has worked beautifully. I used fewer passion fruit than specified as they were pretty expensive, but the flavour (and perfume) still come through and Mr. C's comment just now was that it is one of the best cakes he's ever eaten.
Might Genoux have served this when Mr. FitzGeorge joined Lady Slane for tea?
Back later to talk about the book.
Yummy indeed. I am a bit behind in my reading so I shall peek at the discussion when I finish -- my copy is a lovely old one acquired at the second hand shop around the corner and that is adding to the pleasure. As a postscript, I do love seeing the Emily Eden book on the Cornflower list. Both stories are particular favorites....

The cake looks delicious, thank you - now if only I could have a real slice! Not sure of the protocol here about how to dicuss a book on line. Perhaps Cornflower can start - and we can then all chime in with our opinions, thoughts etc. Will check back later to see what and how to do this.

What a fabulous looking cake! Now what in the world would I substitute for Waitrose Fresh Custard?

Books and cake; I think my life is fulfilled.

You are amazing! I just read "All Passion Spent a couple of weeks ago. Clever to connect it to a passion fruit cake recipe!
I love to read about food in the books I plow through too, but seldom make anything that involved.
I'm now into making "chips and eggs" as it is a quick meal that satisfies detective Hamish Macbeth!
