There is simply no way I can follow yesterday's post with anything comparable, so I'm not going to try. Instead, I shall share with you the generous gift brought back to the family from Monte Carlo by Mr. C.
I ought to point out that over the years, Gareth has found many delightful things for us on his business trips. I've had a hand-marbled scarf from Japan, a beautiful leather-bound notebook from Czechoslovakia, textiles from Hungary, chocolates from Switzerland, various goodies from Chicago, a wonderful silk shawl from Italy, macaroons from Paris... the list goes on.
I'm not a particularly 'material' girl, but these tokens of his undying love and affection are always well received and appreciated. We had high hopes for what Monaco might yield. He told us all the women were dressed to the nines, almost every car on the street was a Ferrari, his hotel had given him a guide to shopping in Monte Carlo, so the children and I thought a little upmarket bijou-giftette might accompany him home. It did. Ladies and gentlemen, meet
Spongey the Sea-horse!
He brought back a pen and pencil as well - how much excitement can a person stand?
Today he's still 'working', as he's at Scone Palace, entertaining clients at the Game Fair. It's the sort of event where you can buy tweed handbags and waxed jackets, posh wellies and smart knitwear, try your hand at casting a fly or clay pigeon shooting, watch a gundog demonstration or terrier racing. You won't find any Ferraris there as they'd get stuck in the mud, but there is a wide range of trade stands and a large craft fair full of interesting and unique decorative items. Gift ideas abound, but it wouldn't surprise me if he came home with Aberdeen Angus steaks.
Spongey would make a nice play-thing for Dark Puss; hope I get to meet him/her this summer!

Spongey's other name is Seahouse, because he was at first placed on to p of the new set of House Season 2 DVDs. "You're orange, you moron!"
