I don't remember our camellia ever blooming as early as the beginning of March before. Not surprisingly, the flowers on the south-facing side are ahead of those looking north. The shrub has been here longer than we have and is now a considerable size, and it will be covered with blossom for a few weeks. I haven't a clue as to the variety, but it is a great asset to a rather bare garden at this time of year.

Possibly "Donation" (one of the Camellia x williamsii hybrids)? I remember growing this successfully in Edinburgh. It is one of the hardiest varieties. I am sure real experts will be able to help you more (also check out the RBG).

I think this might be 'Debbie'.
We can't grow them here: alkaline soil.

I'm fond of camellias because of their color and those nice evergreen glossy leaves. I just wished they had a fragrance. I can never really get excited about a flower unless it has a smell.

I have the exact same flowers outside my diningroom and never knew they were camelias. They've been in bloom for a few weeks now, but I am in a warmer climate.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful pics. I have the same camellia, and now it may be Debbie or Donation - I would love to know the species name, but if I don't I do not love it any less. My buds are just starting to show colour.
I see by our paper that Edinburgh is in for a cool spell, hope it does not injure the beauty of the camellia, although they are pretty hardy!

It's snowing here right now, and the wind's blowing so hard I thought it would take my hair out by the roots! We've been amusing ourselves by watching things blow by the sliding glass door.
Your flowers are, as always, a balm for the spirit!
