That may be a lemon, but this is not an ascetic post. If festive excesses have required self-denial, detoxification, a purge of all indulgences, and an astringent attitude, look away now. However, if you can take your vitamin C with a little theobromine on the side, please read on. I am not talking "lemon juice in hot water to shrink the stomach" today; I am talking "Lemon Drizzle Cake with Sunken Dark Chocolate Chunks".
There are times when only cake will do. A biscuit is too brittle, too insubstantial, an apple is out of the question, an oatcake and a morsel of cheese are all very well in their place, but when it's cake you crave, then it has to be properly cakey cake.
Naturally, you will understand that my interest in this was purely scientific and in the spirit of consumer guidance, as I was just testing a recipe from my our new cookbook.
It works, people! It works!
How can you DO this to me? We just ran out of chocolate (I wonder how that happened) and my husband has the car today.
By the way, I tagged you for the "weird" meme. Forgive me and then please see my site.

You take truly lovely photos! Very nice compositions. I'm in full "I need to learn more about photography" mode, and we're looking to buy a digital SLR camera. May I ask, are your photos taken with a digital SLR camera?
By the way, the cake looks fantastic, too! Absolutely divine. You bring the cake, I'll make the coffee!

P.S.: I'm adding you to my blog roll, if that's okay.

Oh this looks so good, darn it, apparently I now need yet another cook book. Sigh..... Blogging is good for the soul but bad for the bank balance and waistline.

I used to make that type of lemon loaf, but never with chocolate, but I will certainly keep that recipe in mind! Did you squeeze some lemon juice, mix with a bit of sugar and then pour it over the hot loaf? That is what I did with my recipe. It certainly looks good enough to eat and with a good cuppa!

Well, there goes my plan to cut out sweets and lose a few pounds. This looks absolutely divine! Off to add the book to my wishlist on Amazon. One can never have too many cookbooks! BTW, I recently posted about my favorite 13 cookbooks (blog entry: Kiss the Cook). I'm in the mood to do some baking now.

Oh, my goodness! Catch me somebody, I'm going to faint! Lemon and chocolate are a match made in heaven. And in Karen's kitchen, which come to think of it may be on the outskirts of heaven, judging from some of the photos emanating therefrom.
