I may have an exaggerated view of my influence, but checking my 'viewer statistics' last night and being able to see a map of the world on which were displayed little coloured dots to represent the whereabouts of recent Cornflower readers seems to have gone to my head. My family are now referring to my control room study as "The Nerve Centre" and to my desk as "The Desk of Power", and before I acquire a white cat and turn into Blofeld (you see, world domination is the name of the game here - I may talk about knitting and baking cakes but that's just a front for my real operations) I thought I'd lay on a little tour of my immediate surroundings (no piranha fish today).
I called this post 'desk top publishing' for good reason as above I have published a picture of the very desk top at which I sit. Gold-tooled leather covers the surface of this Edwardian partner's desk, and it's just been spruced up for its photo shoot with a gloss of beeswax polish. Dusted off, too, are the 'furnishings' which include a selection of paperweights:
some pieces of quartz from the Isle of Man (I pick up stones wherever I go and should add that fact to this list)
various cards and postcards which I just like looking at,
and the brass nameplate I had in my office once upon a time when I was a professional person and I got paid for my expertise!
So there it is for what it's worth, minus (because image is everything to a global dictator) the pile of papers waiting to be filed, the family photographs, the pot full of pens which people keep pinching, the coffee mug, the.... Ah, good afternoon, Mr. Bond.
Stats are just sooo exciting though. Everyone here is so fed up with it "Guess how many hits I've had today then, go on guess"
"oh....6543"
"No don't be silly, guess properly"

You crack me up. I know exactly what you mean, though, cuz I check my stats, too, and get excited when I see a new country that wasn't there before.
When you get your white cat, don't forget to get also an appropriate ring for your "stroke the kitty while I plot world domination" pictures. ;)

I am not sure how to 'check my stats' nor sure if I want to! I know I often go to a blog and never comment, so I am sure lots of people come to mine and don't comment.
Nice to see just where you blog from. This is my DH's desk, so I would not even think of taking photos!

You just never know where your blog will be read. I sent the permalink of the photo of your periwinkle socks to my step-daughter near Boston, who is a knitter, and it turned out she had made the same socks from the same pattern out of the same book, in a different color.

This is so funny as I'm an obsessive stat checker! I find myself minimizing my "Stats" page at work, popping it up intermittently "just to check." To check for WHAT, is the question, as it's not like the fate of the world is hinging on it, but still...
By the way, is that a Wengen, Switzerland postcard I see?? I've been to Wengen! We went there one day while staying in Lauterbrunnen, on our honeymoon 500 years ago. Isn't it gorgeous there?
