It has been a busy day here, a very active day - thanks to Litlove's post which made me go and watch the Horizon programme The Truth about Exercise. Have you seen it? What did you think? Fascinating stuff, but what took my fancy was the part about the 'low intensity' regime, otherwise known as NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) which you can see from about the 33.10 mark (and there's an article on it by the programme's expert Dr. James Levine here).
I do take exercise every day - walking the dogs, if nothing else - but my work is sedentary, and I spend a lot of time doing it, so what Dr. Levine had to say in that documentary really hit home. As a result, I've deliberately spent much of today on my feet and am only now (in mid-evening) sitting down, but I'm keen to see whether I can keep up the sort of regime Dr. L. recommends, and if so what benefits it might bring. Anyone else trying it?
